About Delfino Vineyards

When Terri and I came to Oregon in 2001 we had several goals, among them were to make this land produce something for us and the community, and to make that product be of the best possible quality.  As it turns out, high quality wine grapes and the award winning wines made from them, were already being produced in Oregon and, in particular, here in Umpqua Valley.  So we began planting a vineyard – and prayed a lot (thanks for the intercessory prayers of our friends too, especially our Capuchin Franciscan brothers).

We now have 14+ acres and 7 grape varieties under cultivation, with 4 more acres planned for 2009.  We have, with God’s help, made every effort to produce high quality grapes, giving the plants everything they need while at the same time limiting our impact on the environment. So far, our success can be seen in the wines produced by others using our fruit. For example, Lange Winery in Dundee has a 2006 Tempranillo which sells for $32.00 -- two thirds of the fruit used in making that wine comes from our vineyard (and for 2007 nearly 100% is from Delfino Vineyards). God is good.

While most of our grapes will continue to go to other
wineries, we now have a small amount of our own wine to offer, made from 100% Delfino Vineyards’ grapes: a 2006

Tempranillo and 2006 Dolcetto. We are having our wines made at a local wineries here in UmpquaValley. Henry Estate Winery is renowned for their Pinot Noir and have many other great offerings including Syrah, a Bordeaux blendcalled “Henry the V”, and white wines like Mueller Thurgau, and Chardonnay. For next year we have 2007 Zinfandel in barrels at Henry Estate and plan to offer our 2007 Syrah which was crafted by Terry Brandborg at Brandborg Winery in Elkton, another great Umpqua Valley vintner.

The wine making in Umpqua Valley, like our grape growing, is done with the highest quality product in mind. Red wines here are hand made, individually treated, and aged in oak barrels for at least 1 year (no oak chips in a stainless steel barrel).  You will be able to taste the difference, and taste the place.

Salute
,

Tasting Notes

2006 Tempranillo  (tem-prah-nee-oh)

Luscious black cherry and caramel aromas followed by shades of chocolate and roses fresh from the garden fill your nose as the flavors of dark ripe cherries, plums, and a whisper of fennel caress your palette. This silky smooth Tempranillo has a long finish and is ready to be enjoyed now with spicy foods and meats like lamb, chorizo, cinnamon, chocolate, and cheddar, goat and other salty cheeses.

2006 Dolcetto
 (dole-chet-toe)

Intense aromas of blackberries and ripe strawberries with notes of vanilla, lilac, and tobacco are followed by the hint of raspberry on the palette. Refreshing, crisp and full bodied, this Dolcetto complements foods like antipasto, Caesar salad, tomato-based sauces, ham, barbequed ribs, and asiago and brie cheeses.
